The Sugar Mill redevelopment project has been underway for quite some time. Today, if you consider the area of Sugar Land, in a corner, north of Highway 90 and East of Highway 6, the overall project includes the Sugar Mill redevelopment, including the new Historic
District, and Business Parks Districts 1 and 2 surrounding the new Ball Park District.
I recently came across a nice full color layout of the entire area. The new roads proposed may allow residents in Sugarmill, Misty Lake, Convington Woods and other area neighborhoods have better access to Highway 6 and into First Colony without having to cross the rail road tracks.
Take a look!

Did you know that Union Pacific plans to double the number of train tracks through Sugar Land and all of Fort Bend County?
You might think that this means twice as many trains, right?
Well, according to officials at Union Pacific, the extra tracks do not mean more trains, but it does mean the trains we experience will move through the area more efficiently. If this is true, this is good news for residents "on the other side of the tracks", north of Highway 90, like Sugarmill, Misty Lake and Covington Woods.
In a news article published in the Independent (opens a new window) on July 6, Barbara Fulenwider writes in part that UP states they want to add more train tracks in an effort to alleviate train traffic much like making a freeway wider. It lets the traffic flow more smoothly.
You can read her entire article here (opens a new window) to learn the details.

The Sugarmill Connection, the neighborhood newsletter for Sugarmill, published an update to the Imperial Sugar Redevelopment, also called the Sugar Land Sugarmill Redevelopment. In their July 2011 issue, Bill Cure, President, Sugar Mill HOA Member, IRC committee, writes in part:
"The Imperial Sugar Re-development Committee (IRC) has continued to work on behalf of all residents of Sugar Land — especially those folks in North Sugar Land — to understand the full ramifications of the proposal that the developers (Johnson and Sueba) will be submitting to the City of Sugar Land Planning and Zoning Committee in the near future."
